The Online Kosher Wine Blog
Since I hail from the land of Long Island, I thought it would be great to share with you the splendor and glory that is Long Island. Despite the fact that fellow New Yorkers like to tease us Long Islanders for living out in the ‘burbs, they have to succumb to the fact that we have some amazing wineries. All of our wineries are located on the east end of the island (Suffolk county), on both the north and south forks.
Interestingly enough, we have only been in the wine business since 1975. In just a few decades, the wine business here boomed and there are now 56 official wineries on the island, totaling over 3,000 acres. Long Island’s geography and soil mix with the maritime climate to produce a delicious variety of wines. We produce both red wines and white wines, including, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Shiraz.
The region has become quite an exciting one and wine producers from the area continue to garner more and more awards each year. New York is the 3rd largest wine region in America and over 1 million people visit Long Island wineries each year. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by for some great wine!
