The Online Kosher Wine Blog
Last week I talked about vertical wine tasting and it seems only appropriate that I would also teach you about horizontal wine tasting. It would have been almost cruel not to keep you informed about the fun you can have when enjoying a glass of wine. To refresh your memory, vertical wine tasting is when you drink one wine but from different years. Horizontal wine tasting is the opposite. This is when you taste one wine varietal but from several different producers from a single year.
So you can grab a few delicious bottles of 2006 Cabernet from several different winemakers. You can choose to get wine that is all from the same region, such as the Napa Valley, or you can try your favorite wine from winemakers all over the country. Choosing a wine from all different regions can help you appreciate the different techniques and flavors used by winemakers.
A similar type of wine tasting is New World vs. Old World. For this particular type, you choose one wine varietal and try one version from the New World (North or South America, Australia, South Africa) and one version from the Old World (France, Germany, Italy, Spain). You can see just how different each country is at creating red wines and white wines. So gather some great bottles and bring out the cheese!
