Wine Ratings Explained

red winesIf you’ve perused Online Kosher Wine’s site, you may have come across a section titled “90+ Point Wines Under $35.” If you’re new to the wine lingo, you’re most likely wondering what that is. The points refer to a rating system for the wine. The higher the rating, the better the wine. The wine rating system isn’t just used on our site, it can be seen on other web sites and sometimes in wine stores. Using the wine rating system can be beneficial if you’re unsure of what wine to choose. However, don’t let it become the “be all and end all” or feel that you need to spend $100 on a wine that rates 95. (Hence our awesome section!)

Here is a breakdown of the rating system, although it may vary just a bit between different web sites and stores:

Anything below a 70 is a below average wine. It will be drinkable but don’t expect it to blow you away. Use the rating as a guideline when purchasing online wines and don’t let it always determine your choice. Everyone has a different palate so you may disagree with the rating.
