Riesling: My Favorite White Wine

white wineI don’t drink wine too often but when I do, a good majority of the time it’s a Riesling, so today lets talk a bit about this delicious white wine. A Riesling is a white wine that originated in Germany, particularly in the Rhein and Mosel river valleys. No two Rieslings are alike and they span a broad range of tastes. They can be either sweet or dry, light or full-bodied. Apparently I’m not the only one who enjoys this wine because it has seen a serious growth in its sales over the past few years. With its large increase in popularity, Rieslings are being produced in France, Italy, Austria, New Zealand, Australia, New York, South Africa, Ukraine and China.

Typically when drinking this wine, you’ll smell apple, peach, and pear mixed with honey. These citrus smells will also appear on your palate. These flavors are predominate because the wine is not aged very long. If you’re looking to pair it with food, the sky’s the limit. A good Riesling can go with poultry, pork, fish, desserts, and just about anything else you can think of. They even pair nicely with the spicy cuisine of Asian, Mexican, and Moroccan cooking.
